Some Exciting News from Debra Chasnoff

Dear Friends,

I have some very exciting news to share with you about how GroundSpark is preparing for our next phase of igniting change through film.

After 20 years at the helm, I am going to move into a new role at GroundSpark where I can focus more exclusively on creative and political leadership. To ensure that GroundSpark’s funding, strategic planning, and programmatic impact continue to be robust and vibrant, we will soon be hiring a new executive director!

I am invigorated by this opportunity to streamline my role at GroundSpark, and look forward to the new infusion of energy and senior management capacity that a new executive director will bring to our team. I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished during my time as a leader here and also proud that GroundSpark is at this juncture in our development.

Our new leadership plan is part of a very thoughtful internal restructuring assessment that we have done with support from the Evelyn and Walter Haas, Jr. Fund. It is part of a series of steps our board and staff have taken to ensure that GroundSpark is strong and flexible enough to navigate the demands of the difficult economy and the changing media landscape.

Please look for the job announcement later this month. Our talented staff and board will be doing the preliminary search while I take a short sabbatical over the summer (my first ever!). And our strong internal leadership group is looking forward to working with a new executive director to implement GroundSpark’s next phase of culture-changing work.

If you have any questions about this news, I encourage you to get in touch with the co-chair of our board’s executive transition committee, Elissa Perry: groundspark.board (at)

I truly love the incredible impact GroundSpark is able to have in communities all over the globe. Thank you, as always, for being part of this work, and for helping us ignite change through film.
