A girl in Indiana has successfully sued her school district to allow her to wear a tuxedo to her senior prom. The girl, who was represented by the ALCU, didn’t want to wear a dress because they “indicate a sexual identity that is not her own.”
The Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board voted to include gender identity in its nondiscrimination and harassment policies.
Lesbians in South Africa are being systematically attacked and left for dead on the streets of South Africa purely because of their sexual orientation. “What we’re seeing is a spike in the numbers of women coming to us having been raped and who have been told throughout the attack that being a lesbian was to blame for what was happening to them.”
When parents pulled their children out of classes discussing LGBT history, the district threatened to take them to court. It’s the district’s policy that parents ensure their children attend school. “As part of the borough’s policy of promoting tolerance in our schools, children are taught that everyone in our society is of equal value.”
